TR7 // Season One Complete
The Rugby 7s
Seven players. Fourteen minutes. Everything on the line.
// The Manifesto
Seven players. Fourteen minutes. Non-stop action.
Sevens rugby is the game at its purest — no hiding, no waiting around. Just pace, skill, and tries. TR7 exists to play this brilliant format the way it should be played: with flair, teamwork, and a genuine love for the sport.
Started by the Leeson brothers from Rugby (yes, that Rugby), we set out in 2026 to play a few tournaments and see where it went. It went further than we expected — two tournament wins, and a trophy first contested in 1950 brought back to the town it was named after.
// 2026 Season
The Circuit
Three tournaments in a debut summer. Fourteen matches, eleven of them won, and two trophies — one of which nobody had lifted since 1990. Nineteen players got a game.
// Local History
The Rugby
Advertiser Cup
First played for in 1950 to fund the “Sportsman’s Bed” at Rugby St Cross Hospital. Contested until 1990, then packed away for thirty-six years.
In 2026, Rugby St Andrews RFC and Hamplified brought it back with Rugby & District RFU as the premier local sevens trophy. Eight teams entered. TR7 are the first name on it since 1990.

// The Film
TR7 at Hamplified
We teamed up with The Camera Guys at the Hamplified 7s — five games, five wins, and The Rugby Advertiser Cup at the end of it. There's a second film covering the festival itself over on the match report.
Filmed and cut by The Camera Guys. In aid of the Matt Hampson Foundation.
The Squad
Nineteen players turned out for TR7 in 2026, six of them at all three tournaments. We take a small squad and everyone who travels plays — no passengers, no watching from the side. Lads from Newbold on Avon, Rugby St Andrews and Rugby Lions, out to Bournville, Kenilworth, Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury; National League 1 down to level 8, same side.
Number = tournaments played in 2026. Tyler Russell & Nate Atherton co-captained at Hertford; Ciaran Leeson captained from Hamplified on.

Where It
Started.
Our debut came at the first-ever LIT Super Sevens U23 competition at Hertford RFC — men’s and women’s draws, one venue, one day, run with our friends at UR7s.
Hertford 7s — U23
LIT Super Sevens × UR7s
An elite U23 competition, and a chance to give some younger lads genuinely competitive sevens minutes. Fraser Wilson and Seb Stacey came to us through UR7s and went on to play every tournament of the season. A proper way to start a debut year.
