Season One: What We Learned
And just like that, TR7's first season is done. What a ride.
Cheltenham 7s Festival was the perfect way to finish – two days of rugby, great weather, and a festival atmosphere that reminded us exactly why we started this team. But more on that later. First, let's look back at what we actually learned this summer.
What Went Well
- The squad came together. We started as a bunch of individuals and ended as a team. By Cheltenham, we had combinations, we had calls, we had moments where everything just clicked.
- The brand landed. People know TR7 now. The kit gets attention, the logo is memorable, and we've built a presence in the sevens community from nothing.
- We made connections. The number of teams, players, and organisers we've met this summer is brilliant. Sevens is a community, and we're now part of it.
- We had fun. Sounds obvious, but that was the whole point. Every tournament was a good day out. No regrets.
What We'd Do Differently
- More training. We got by on fitness and enthusiasm, but some actual sevens-specific sessions would have helped. Next year we'll sort that.
- Earlier planning. A few tournaments we wanted to do were already full by the time we got organised. 2027 entries go in early.
- More content. We took photos but not enough. Video barely happened. Social media could have been better. Lesson learned.

Cheltenham Highlights
The festival was everything we hoped for. Two days, loads of teams, fancy dress everywhere, and some genuinely quality rugby mixed in with the chaos. We won some, lost some, but mostly just enjoyed being part of it.
Saturday night was memorable – let's leave it at that. Sunday morning was tough. But we dragged ourselves out for the last few games and ended the season on a high.
What's Next
We're taking a breather, but we're already thinking about 2027. More tournaments, potentially some competitive stuff if the squad fancies it, and definitely more content to share the journey.
We're also looking for more sponsors to help us grow. If you've read this far and your business wants to be part of TR7, get in touch. Season two is going to be bigger.
To everyone who played, supported, sponsored, or just followed along – thank you. This was supposed to be a bit of fun, and it turned into something we're genuinely proud of.
Season one: done. Season two: loading.
Love the game.
